“Drawings seem as doomed as we. They cannot bear the light. The windowed expanse of the first floor’s north space has been sealed up until June 8 for Master Drawings from the Yale University Art Gallery. But these works survive in spite of that fragility, as if impermanence were their only subject. This show has been in wandering exile for the past two years (in Sarasota and Austin) and has now returned home for a display that is unlikely to be repeated on this scale. These are the choices from over a thousand such drawings in the University’s collection, usually left to grow old in the dark.”
