“After a production at Yale’s first Carlotta Festival of new plays last spring, McCraney’s “In the Red and Brown Water” received readings at London’s Soho Rep and at the “New Work Now!” Festival at New York’s Public Theater, the latter staged by noted director Tina Landau. In January, McCraney was named the first recipient of the Paula Vogel Award, which came with a cash prize and a reading of a new play at off-Broadway’s Vineyard Theatre.” A week later, he graduates. “He’s going to be around for a long time as a significant figure in the theater,” says Richard Nelson, chairman of the playwriting department at the Yale School of Drama.”

  1. We just saw The Brothers Size at the Studio Theater in Washington, DC, and were amazed by McCraney’s skill at staging and integrating essential human themes (brotherhood) in innovative ways and with perfect linguistic pitch. His work is way beyond what we oridinarily see here – classic!
